Osage Clan Survey
June 17, 2013

Tribal Research Assistant of the Osage Nation Historic Preservation Department (ONHPO), Welana Fields is asking the Osage people to participate in a short survey about their Osage clan. The survey is part of the Osage Clan Research Project, an anthropological study that Ms. Fields is conducting. The objective of this study is to provide an ethnographic description of the current state of the Osage clan system. To obtain this information Ms. Fields is circulating a survey among the Osage Nation starting May 1st and ending July 31st.
The main distribution method for the survey is through a web-based survey provider called Survey Monkey. Participants can take the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/osageclan2013.

You may take the survey for your children and other family members, but please take the survey for each person only once. Welana Fields will also make site visits to the three Osage districts, Hominy, Grayhorse, and Pawhuska.

Survey Site Visit

Pawhuska:  5/3 Constantine Theatre 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Hominy:     5/20 ON Education Dept. 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

If you do not have internet access or are unable to attend any of the site visits please call Welana Fields at 918-287-5307 to request a survey through the mail.

The Osage News will also circulate the survey link via Facebook and Twitter throughout the three months the survey is open. Please feel free to forward the survey link to other Osage tribal members through Emails or social media sites.

Once the data is collected, it will be used to educate the Osage people on the current Osage clan system to provide the Osage people with a numerical approximation of Osage clan, band, and district populations as well as identify the oral stories, customs, or traditions that go along with Osage clans.

I believe it is important that we as Osage people assess our current state of knowledge of our clans; to educate ourselves and preserve this information. I am happy to invite all Osage tribal members to participate in this project by taking this short survey. The success of this project lies with the Osage people, so please take the survey for yourself and other family members who may need assistance and help spread the word by forwarding the survey. Help us preserve our present for our future. Thank you for your participation!
